Assuming that Abraham and Sarah are historical figures; if Ur of the Chaldees was in southern Babylonia, they spoke Babylonian, the same language as that of the Code of Hammurabi. If, on the other hand, the Ur which was their place of origin was northern Ur, along the banks of the Upper Euphrates, their original language would have been Aramaic. In fact the biblical account itself declares that the original ancestors of Israel were Aramaeans.
